Hello, I'm Kris Kalama.
This is my profile bio. Aloha, my name is Leslie Kaikulu Vincent and I turn beautiful hawaii grown wooden pieces of art on my lathe. I make lamps, bowls, and urns. While in highschool i fell in love with creating beautiful hawaiian art on the lathe. After graduating i was forced to leave that passion to work other construction jobs to support my family of 5. 6 years ago i was able buy an old lathe and renew my love for creating hawaiian bowls, lamps and urns. Because of the support of my wife, family and postive feedback of my art i have created my own woodturning business. Kaikulu Originals came from my hawaiian name that was given to me as a child by my hawaiian father. All of my art starts from pieces of hawaii grown logs, that are shaped, dried out for 8 months to a year, then sanded and finished to look like glass. My art is inspired by my past, life experiences and my hawaiian culture. As you may notice, most of my bowls are shaped in the sane way hawaiian did. These are called hawaiian "umeke". I also create glowing table lamps, and hanging pendants that are made from one solid piece of Norfolkpine. I shape and sand untill thin enough for light to shine through. My most popular designs are the Puakenikeni flower lamp, and Octopus (He'e) Lamp. I also love to do custom bowls lamps and urns as well. The art I do are heirlooms that will be passed down for generations. I hope you can enjoy its beauty for generations to come.
